Citation Help

Use the following resources for assistance in APA Citation.

Research Tips

Evaluating Sources:

1- Is the source up-to-date?
2- Is the source reliable? Look for sources whose authors are from respected universities, businesses, or other institutions.
3- What are the author's viewpoints and biases? Look at the author's gender, background, political beliefs, etc.

Making Source Cards
Make sure you are making Source Cards the entire time you are researching!

1- Put a number on your card. Start with 1 and go up for each source you find.
2- Record the APA citation on the card. (You can use
http://www.bibme.org/ to find these. But make sure you choose the APA option!)
3- Quote: Write any quotes you are using exactly as they appear in the source and enclose it in quotation marks. Quote material for emphasis or when the author's words are especially clear and powerful.
4- Paraphrase: Restate ideas in your own words to summarize them and to avoid plagiarism, or using someone else's material without permission. Paraphrasing will help you with your analysis.
